Kenny Slaught Explains Benefits Of Supporting Youth Suffering Trauma

Hospice of Santa Barbara’ presence on school campuses remains constant, Kenny Slaught says. The groups of volunteers visit the campuses on a weekly basis and manage meetings with students who went through a traumatic experience. This allows an open space for kids to talk about their feelings and develop useful coping skills. Like this, teens are less likely to develop an addiction to drugs or alcohol. The volunteers also instruct staff members on how to talk with kids who went through trauma, and how to touch topics like death and suicide. Hospice of Santa Barbara works with 65 schools and is always available to respond to an emergency.
